Graduate Learning Goals

Graduate Program in Mathematical Sciences
Ph.D. Degree Learning Goals and Assessment
The Graduate Program in the Mathematical Sciences offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (jointly with the Department of Mathematics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology), strives to train students either (a) to become leaders in their areas of expertise in  teaching and/or research institutions or (b) to be become effective leaders in business, industry, governmental agencies, and non-governmental organizations.  Training in theoretical mathematics is valuable not only because it can prepare students for further research or teaching in mathematics, but also because it provides a solid base for rigorous, sophisticated analysis in almost any endeavor.
Learning Goal 1:  Advanced research and teaching skills in the mathematical sciences
Learning Goal 2:  Completion of original, publishable research
Learning Goal 3:  Professional career preparation
