Joe Arku is from Liberia. He is a social worker and teacher. He began his undergraduate studies at the University of Liberia.  He majored in sociology and minored in French Language. He graduated from College/Institute of French Studies and obtained BA-degree in French Education (French Teacher Diploma). While at the College of French Studies, he received a scholarship under the auspices of the government of France to study abroad.

He graduated from Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey with a Bachelor degree (BA). He then enrolled in the MA Rutgers School of Social Work, where he obtained his master’s degree in social work (MSW).

He is the coordinator/Advisor of six, seven and eight grade boys with the Friends and Families United Inc. in collaboration with the Newark Public Schools. He has served in this capacity for the past four school years educating and advocating for more than 60 youngsters in school settings in order for them to articulate the benefit of education and be able to make positive choices in life.

About his work at CGCHR he says “ I greatly appreciate being part of the CGHR because I have always aspire in working with people in order to promote sustainable development for people who need it the most.  I do not hesitate to join a movement that promotes social justice all humans despite their social, economic, political and ethnic backgrounds. I simply believe in the concept of “Human Rights”.
