2010-11 Human Rights Floor

During the 2010-2011 academic year, the Center for Genocide and Human Rights, in partnership with the Office of Housing and Residential Life, launched a pilot living learning community, known as the Human Rights Floor in University Square. This floor worked to establish links between the human rights communities on campus, build relationships between faculty and students, and offer innovative new programming for the residence halls, making the Human Rights Floor a premier choice for Rutgers-Newark students. The Human Rights floor sought to foster a culture of in-residence service learning and activism on campus, with a focus on human rights, social justice, diversity and service learning. The aim of the floor was two-fold: first, for residents to gain a shared experience discussing course material in a forum outside the classroom; and secondly, to encourage students to pursue independent research and projects about human rights that they can later share with the Rutgers community.
