Rutgers-Newark MAPS Chapter Stops Hunger Now

In an effort to end world hunger, the Minority Association for Pre-Health Students and the Student Government Association of Rutgers, Newark have teamed up with International organization, STOP HUNGER NOW in conducting a meal packaging event on campus. Over the course of two months a total amount of $2900.00 was raised and used to purchase a total of 11,600 meals. At a cost of $0.25 a meal, each package sealed and boxed can last a shelf life of two years and feed a family of 6 individuals. With the help and support of over 80 volunteers to combine the rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and flavoring mix packet including vitamins and minerals, these packages were made, sealed, and stored in less than 3 hours. The event held on Tuesday, April 8th, 2014, was a fun-filled experience and extremely rewarding for everyone who participated.
