A Place of Exploration, Discovery, and Imagination

With degrees offered in nearly 40 undergraduate fields, 17 master’s programs and 8 doctoral programs, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers-Newark provides countless opportunities for academic exploration in a wide range of studies.

The school’s history traces back to the establishment of Dana College in 1930, and now encompasses:

  • Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS), which enrolls more than 60 percent of the undergraduates at Rutgers–Newark and is the largest of seven schools on campus. NCAS offers majors in nearly 40 fields in the arts and humanities, sciences, and social sciences
  • University College-Newark (UCN), designed for adult and nontraditional students to attend classes on evenings or weekends
  • Graduate School-Newark, serving the needs of graduate students in 19 disciplines.

In addition, the Honors College offers enrichment courses of study in all disciplines for those undergraduates ready for the most challenging curricula in the university.
