Program in American Language Studies

The Program in American Language Studies (PALS) is the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Rutgers University-Newark. PALS and Rutgers have a long established relationship, working together for over 25 years, providing exceptional English language teaching and assistance to international students and community citizens on the most diverse campus in the United States, Rutgers-Newark.  PALS students work towards achieving basic communication skills and academic language proficiency in a communicative setting with a recently renovated language lab. PALS runs six sessions annually, offering classes in intensive English study, English for Academic Purposes, and TOEFL/IELTS test preparation and administration. Our instructors come from a variety of backgrounds and have or are working towards advanced degrees in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, English or foreign language study.
