M.A./M.A.T. Learning Goals

Students who pursue the Masters of Arts (M.A.) or the Masters of Arts for Teachers (M.A.T.) degrees in History at Rutgers University-Newark can expect the following from the program:

  • To attain research, analytical, and writing skills, and knowledge in the broad field of history as well as in a specialized sub-field.
  • To be able to design a research project, conduct original research, and produce a written product of that research.
  • To acquire professional skills commensurate with their goals, which may be a) attending a PhD program in history, b) acquiring a position in secondary teaching, or b) enhancing their skills in their current profession.
