The Institute mourns the passing of our good friend and guiding light, Gustav Heningburg

The Institute mourns the passing of our good friend and guiding light, Gustav Heningburg.  Almost a decade ago, when we established a fellowship program that brought together Rutgers-Newark faculty and local civic leaders, we named it The Gustav Heningburg Civic Fellows Program, in honor of his work as one of the most important of Newark’s civic architects.  Heningburg was part of a generation of leaders who dedicated themselves to social justice and city life during what many considered to be Newark’s darkest days.  He will be missed for his civic dedication, his enchanting storytelling, and his friendship.
