An Evening With Annette Gordon-Reed

An Evening With Annette Gordon-Reed
October 21, 2008

Former Rutgers-Newark History Professor Annette Gordon Reed (currently teaching at Harvard University), spoke about her stunning new book, The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family and was interviewed by Rutgers-Newark professor Jan Lewis, herself a noted Jeffersonian scholar. Professor Gordon-Reed signed copies of her book.

The Hemingses of Monticello brings to life not only Sally Hemings and her intimate relationship with Thomas Jefferson but the entire Hemings family in what Joseph J. Ellis says is "the most comprehensive account of one slave family ever written." The book has been hailed as "monumental and original" (Washington Post), "commanding and important (New Yorker), and "compulsively readable" (Newsweek).
