HPLC Mentors

HPLC Mentors for the 2016-2017 Academic Year

Maisha Manzoor, a Health Professions Learning Community (HPLC) mentor, is an alumni of Science Park High School in Newark, NJ and the International Baccalaureate Program. As a student of the first HPLC cohort, Maisha acknowledges learning the importance of motivation, confidence, and guidance, and she credits the steady path she maintains to her HPCL instructor and her inspiring peers. Maisha is a biology major with a chemistry minor at Rutgers University-Newark. She is a regular volunteer at University Hospital, a member of the Muslim Student Association, and a tutor for elementary school students. Maisha aspires to attend medical school and obtain a career in the field of medicine so she can serve medically undeserved areas with a system of quality health care.

Tabhata Paulet is a first-generation college student from Lima, Peru. Ever since she could remember, she always dreamed of becoming a physician, and obtained exposure to the medical field as an Emergency Medical Technician and Certified Nursing Assistant. Being in the Health Professions Learning Community has allowed her to form friendships with individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, as well as obtain a close relationship with her pre-health advisors. Outside of academics, Tabhata mentors high school students, and participates in various forms of community service on campus and outside of campus in the Newark community. She also plans on conducting research in cancer with Rutgers University. During the summer of 2016, she will be attending a Summer Medical and Dental Education Program in New Jersey Medical School to help her achieve her lifetime goal of becoming an Ob/Gyn and further specializing in Gynecological Cancer. The passion Tabhata has for helping others accomplish their dreams will help her serve as a successful mentor for the new upcoming HPLC 2016 Mentorship Program.
