Place of Pride, Vision for the Future

Rutgers–Newark is exceptional in both the population it serves and the experience it provides. At the heart of this experience are excellent programs spanning the arts and sciences. Newark’s arts and sciences faculty, students, and alumni have many reasons for pride.

The campus is home to the student economics team that recently took second place in the national College Fed Challenge competition, edged out only by Harvard. This is the second consecutive year the Rutgers-Newark team has placed second nationally, and the third consecutive year they have placed in the top three schools in the nation.

It is home to a thriving Honors College that attracts some of the strongest students in the region and features an accelerated seven-year BA/MD program with UMDNJ.

It is also home to nationally ranked graduate programs in chemistry, psychology, and mathematics/computer science, and to an outstanding MFA in Creative Writing that Poets & Writers magazine ranked among the top-tier programs in its 2011 survey. Its Writers at Newark reading series attracts such nationally recognized authors as ToniMorrison, E.L. Doctorow, Junot Diaz, and Richard Price.

With investment from alumni and friends, NCAS-UCN now aims to grow even stronger, expanding the college's tradition of access to educational excellence—a tradition that has made a difference in the lives of tens of thousands of NCAS-UCN alumni over the years.
