Forgotten Atrocities Project

Our gaze is often directed at on-going war, civil strife, and mass violence that takes place over long periods and is linked to the interests of given states and the international community. With regard to the United States, for example, the post-9/11 wars, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Ukraine, Darfur, and especially Syria and ISIS are have more recently been foregrounded in the headlines. In keeping with its critical genocide studies approach and existing project on “Forgotten Genocides,” CGHR’s Forgotten Atrocities project seeks to explore episodes of mass violence that, if sometimes momentarily making the headlines, have largely been backgrounded, ignored, forgotten, or hidden from sight.
