IELTS Examiner

IELTS Test Centre US379 accepts applications for IELTS Examiners on an ongoing basis. The test center is housed within the Program of American Language Studies (PALS/ESL), Rutgers University–Newark.

New Examiner candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree or a qualification that can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an undergraduate degree
  • A recognized qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or recognized equivalent as part of a recognized university award course
  • At least three years of full-time (or the equivalent part-time) relevant TESOL teaching experience (minimum one year post-certificate level qualification). The majority of this teaching experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over).

Qualified candidates must complete the IELTS Examiner Application, submit a cover letter and resume, and have a reference complete the IELTS Examiner Reference Form.  Please e-mail Ayesha Salim to receive copies of IELTS forms.

Current IELTS Examiners interested in working at IELTS Centre US379 may apply as well. Shared Examiners must submit the application form—including Appendix 7 & 12—Cambridge Examiner Certification Letter, monitoring history (all Appendix 19 & 20s), and disciplinary records. Transfer Examiners must submit application form—including Appendices 7 & 12, Cambridge Examiner Certification Letter and Certification Sets completed—monitoring history (all Appendix 19 & 20s), and disciplinary records.

Testing is scheduled two Saturdays per month and Examiners are scheduled as needed (90 days in advance). Compensation is $15 per candidate for the Speaking interview and $7.50 per Writing task. Each Examiner is required to complete two Writing tasks per candidate. Depending on enrollment, an Examiner is usually assigned 8–16 candidates per exam. This is a contract appointment.

If approved by the Examiner Trainer, new candidates must complete face-to-face training and successfully pass the certification exam.
