United Nations Emergency Peace Service Initiative

CGHR is a strategic partner in the Global Action to Prevent War and Armed Conflict's (GAWP) United Nations Emergency Peace Service (UNEPS) initiative. As we have seen time and time again, the international community has repeatedly failed to prevent atrocity crimes. UNEPS, a proposed standing United Nations rapid response force, would be deployed within 48-72 hours of when such incidents of genocide, crimes against humanity, and other humanitarian disaster start to take place. The CGHR UNEPS Initiative Projector Director, Professor Saul Mendlovitz, the Dag Hammarskjöld Professor of Law Emeritus, is the co-founder of GAWP and one of the originators of the idea of UNEPS. Most recently, he has overseen the writing of a UNEPS statute that can serve as the basis for creation of UNEPS at the United Nations.
