Q. What if I earned my degree prior to 2005?

Ans. You must complete all the general education requirements that are affiliated with the school in which you are enrolled. Only students who have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree from a New Jersey community college in January 2005 or thereafter and who have completed the required general education curriculum as a part of their degree, will have the degree credits transfer fulfilling the first two years of a baccalaureate degree program at Rutgers University.

Q. What if my major requires upper level Math courses?
Ans.
The only reason a student would be required to take more than the standard half of credits for the four-year degree is if entrance into a required course at the four-year institution requires a prerequisite course which the student has not completed at the community college and the student cannot fit that prerequisite within the remaining credits to be taken at the four-year institution.

Q.What if I only completed one English Composition course?
Ans.
Every student must successfully complete two English Composition courses with a grade of C or better. Completion of the English Composition requirement is the prerequisite to the Writing Intensive requirement.

Q.Am I required to complete the Writing Intensive requirement?
Ans.
Every student must complete two writing intensive courses with at least one in the major.

Q. Am I required to complete the Foreign Language requirement?
Ans.
Students are expected to have completed two years of high school study of a foreign language prior to entering college. Students who have not fulfilled this expectation will be required to complete a one-year, elementary, sequential course, six credits, in a foreign language. Note: Students who are admitted to and intend to graduate from University College are temporarily excused from completing the college level sequence.

Q.What if I earned a 2-year degree other than an AA or AS from a New Jersey Community College?

Q.When should I visit the Career Development Center?
Ans.
All transfer students should visit the Career Development Center during their first semester at RU-Newark.
